The pillow was created to challenge the materiality of glass and the idea of comfort.

Each resealable, mesh pillow holds 10 sheets of glass.

The user must exert effort to break the sheets to use the pillow. The glass shards are held back only by the thin, translucent mesh which dares the user to confront their perceptions of glass and comfort.

The mirror was created to demonstrate the shifting optical effects of glass.

This displays only a few in a series of leaning or hanging covers for the mirror to create various distortions.

A user can stack one or multiple sheets of glass on top of the mirror to observe a change in the reflected image. This introspective process shows the compounding of different glass’ properties and encourages exploration with the material and the user’s environment.

These material swatches are explorations that delve into different materials that can be created through modifications of Fastemp’s process.

Each material swatch was created through a multitude of experiments on glass or from the various glass byproducts created by the sheet glass cutting and finishing process.

This collection pushes the boundaries of what a company like Fastemp could do with the materials they already have. By applying heat and pressure, and by combining glass with byproducts of their process, new and exciting materials can be discovered.
